China is a country in East Asia with a population of more than 1.4 billion.
On the map, the shape of China resembles a rooster. The earliest known name for China is “Zhongguo” which means “Middle Kingdom”. The name dates back to when China was considered the political and cultural center of the World. Colonialism came to China in the first opium war (1839-1842) in which the British Navy claimed victory.
Beijing (previously Peking) is the capital of China. It has a population of 22.5 million people and more buildings of historical and architectural significance than any other city in China. The Forbidden City is located in Beijing. The Forbidden City has 9,999 rooms and was the Imperial Palace. During the time that it was occupied by royalty, unauthorized entry by any person was grounds for their execution.
Shanghai is the largest city in China and is a trading hub for China. It is one of the most visited cities in China. It is a major center for finance, business, economics, research, science and technology. The Port of shanghai is the world’s busiest container port.
The Great Wall of China was built to protect China’s northern borders against various Nordic groups. The Great Wall has watchtowers and troop barracks all to aid in the defense of China. It was first built in the 7th Century. It is primarily made of earth, stones and wood. In the Ming Dynasty, the Great Wall was made of bricks with sticky rice as mortar.
